Naruto’s Global Popularity Soars While Japan Rankings Lag, Study Finds

A new global report reveals a surprising divide in the success of Naruto. While the franchise ranks among the top five in major markets like the U.S., India, and Brazil, it places only 15th in Japan. According to GEM Partners, domestic audiences favour long-running giants such as Detective Conan, One Piece, and Dragon Ball.

Despite this gap, Naruto remains a global powerhouse, generating billions in revenue and serving as a gateway anime for international fans, even as newer titles reshape Japan’s competitive market. Anime popularity is an iceberg, since so may anime that the rest of the world loved were not get picked up for a second season because it was not popular in Japan. Lucky for us, the Naruto franchise did not fall into that curse.
