Week 2 - 10 - 16 September
Episodes to Watch: 4 to 6
It is week 2 of the Zero no Tsukaima challenge and episode 1 -3 was filled with laughter and intrigue. Episode 1 started with Mrs. Chevruese teaching a class on Earth Magic. She showed her class a simple Earth Magic spell and then looked for a student to try it as well. Her eyes fell on Louise and she asks Louise to try out the spell. One of the students immediately warned the teacher that Louise shouldn’t try the spell, more students tried to warn her as well and Louise, both embarrassed and angered insists then to try out the spell. She stepped forward and casted the spell and it is followed by an explosion… The classroom is ruined and some students yell at her, calling her names like “Zero Louise”
The next day everyone is gathered outside. It is the day they all get to summon their familiars. One by one the students started to summon their familiars. One summons a bugbear, another a salamander until it is Louise’s turn to summon her familiar. As she casted her spell, an explosion happened, and when the smoke faded they see a boy in strange clothes lying on the ground. The boy, dressed in what we know is modern day clothes wondered where he were and noticed that he did not understood the language of the people around him. This is how Saito and Louise’s adventure together started. Much more happened but we will not spoil the rest of the episode for those who missed out on Episode 1.
Week 3 - 17 - 23 September
Episodes to Watch: 7 to 9
It is week 3 of the Zero no Tsukaima challenge and last week we watched episode 4 -5. Episode 4 dealt with a few interesting plot lines. The headmaster, Osmond, and Mrs. Loungeville talked about a thief named Fouquet that is rumoured to be in the vicinity of the Academy. Fouquet is well known as a thief that steals artifacts from nobles with the use of magic and the Royal Palace is worried since the academy is guarding The Staff of Destruction. Osmond believes that Fouquet will not be able to raid the Academy’s treasure vault because it is quite protected against magic. Osmond believes that the Royal Palace’s worries are quite needed.
At that same time we see poor Saito who is washing Louise’s clothes in a fountain. Siesta visits him and helps him to wash Louise’s clothing, giving him tips on how to wash and dry silk. After chatting a while, Saito walks back to Louise’s chamber but is ‘ambushed’ by Kirche. She tries to seduce him again, offering him the shiny, fancy sword she bought him in episode 3. Saito asks her why she is so interested in him and she says that he speaks and acts like a working-class commoner, that he does not have the best appearance and that he looks a bit wild and unkempt. Saito, not happy at all about her illogical reasons, tries to leave and Kirche does not understand why he is upset. She then tries to bribe him with gifts and tries to seduce him even more by pinning him to her floor. Louise bursts in and angrily yells at Saito:”Get back into my room, you little mutt!”
A lot more happened in Episode 4 but we will not spoil it for those that want to catch up. Zero no Tsukaima is hilarious and we invite those who have not joined into the challenge to join us! This week’s episodes are episodes 7 to 9 and we hope you will enjoy watching it with us. Have a super sugoi week!
Week 4 - 24 - 30 September
Episodes to Watch: 10 to 13
It is week 4 of our Zero no Tsukaima Anime Challenge! The anime has, thus far really taken us on a journey. We have seen talking swords and stone golems, crazy magic (Louise’s) and bad sword skills (Saito’s). We have made discoveries that link our world to their world, and we have a whole week of more episodes ahead. What will we see next? This anime never fails to deliver.
In the beginning of Episode 7 Louise and the queen (Henrietta)talks about Louise’s new rank, which she received thanks to her and Saito’s heroics in Episode 6. Henrietta regally holds out her hand to Saito, in order for him to kiss it. Not privy to diplomacy he looks at Louise for guidance and she explains that he must kiss the Queen. He blushes but reaches out to Henrietta. Instead of taking her hand and kissing it, he reach for her back, draws her close, then sweep her in his arms and gallantly kisses the queen on her lips!
The camera fades in and we see his face swollen and bruised. He took quite a beating. Louise throws him around, yelling that he was supposed to kiss Henrietta’s hand, while the queen awkwardly tries to calm Louise:”I-It’s alright. It was done out of loyalty.” When Louise calms down Henrietta informs Saito and Louise that she has a quest for them. We will not spoil the rest for you. If you missed out on episode 7 – 9 we recommend that you watch it. It is filled with humour, crazy magics and sugoi adventures. Have a super sugoi week and enjoy watching Zero no Tsukaima!
