Konnichiwa Minna. This is our second week of our March Anime Challenge. Last week’s challenge was episode 1 – 3. In Episode 1 “Evil, Flood-Colored City” , we met quite a few of the character and a few story plots unfolded, but let’s focus on the two reporters, Maria Ōsawa and Minoru Minorikawa that were sent on an assignment to cover the upcoming International Anti-Terrorism Conference. In the episode we see them in the street observing and interacting with the festivities that are taking place. There are people dancing and laughing, fireworks, everyone is in a festive mood. Minoru thinks he sees a diplomat in disguise and leaves Maria in the crowd. Maria wanders off, and follows two adorable children playing around, enjoying the festival. Then one of the children slips and falls and as the child lifts its hand there are blood all over him. That is when Maria discovers the corpse of a dead man, which was definitely infected with a virus! WE will not spoil the rest for you except that one of the best armed chase-scenes in anime happens right after that. There are much more that happens to the two reporters, but this is just a teaser review, and you just have to go watch the episodes to find out what happened next!
Week 3 - 19 to 25 March
Episodes to Watch: 7 to 9
Konnichiwa Minna. This is our third week of our March Anime Challenge. Last week’s challenge was episode 4 – 6. Canaan’s fourth episode dealt with a lot of themes but the main themes were loss, abandonment and regret. Maria suffered from PTSD because she realized due to the events that happened in episode 3 that Canaan is not the ordinary girl Maria thought she were. At the same time, while Canaan was removing a bullet from her arm, she thought back to that same event in Episode 3, about the look of disappointment in Maria’s eyes after Canaan saved her. Canaan wondered then if she is going to be abandoned by Maria, Just as Canaan has been abandoned in the past. Memories flashed through her as she remembered how she was discovered among the ruins of her village, a lone survivor. The man who saved her became her mentor, and we see flashbacks of him teaching her how to shoot guns, and hand-to-hand combat.
Later, after being cheered up by Minorikawa, Maria walked the streets, hoping she can run into Canaan. She thought back on all the times Canaan saved her, distracted she did not realize that she entered a bad neighborhood. Maria suddenly found herself surrounded by dodgy men, but she was thankfully saved by… not who you think, not Canaan but by someone very interesting. Well, if you missed watching episode 4, then you just have to go and watch it to see how this new development in the story panned out. Last week’s episodes were action-packed, dark but also with hilarious moments. We hope you enjoy this week’s challenge.
Week 4 – 26 March to 01 April
Episodes to Watch: 10 to 13
Konnichiwa Minna! Week 4 of our challenge is here! Remember in Episode 6 several government officials were being confined by the terrorist group? Remember that one of them died by infection of the Ua Virus, ending the episode in a cliffhanger?
In episode 7 the suspense continued. In the White House, in Washington D.C. USA an emergency meeting conducted by key figures of the US government tried to come up with a plan of action while in Shanghai, Canaan infiltrated the building where the hostages are held, hell-bent to save them as well as her friend Maria.
Panning back to Washington, we see the US Government discuss the severity of the situation because the hostages in Shanghai are now exposed to the Ua Virus. Now there must be found a way to contain and neutralize the situation before all of the city of Shanghai gets exposed to the virus. Worst, because the officials that are held hostage are already infections, sending vaccines over is now a useless venture. Then the US National Security Adviser reveals intelligence that Okoshi Pharmaceuticals in Japan did secretly develop an antivirus, but question is, will Japan admit the existence of the antivirus?
If you watched the rest of this episode last week, you know just how amazing it turned out in the end. This was just a recap of part of the episode, for those who missed it, we recommend watching the Canaan anime. This anime has all the ‘sugoiness’ that many espionage and action series lack. Enjoy watching this week’s challenge, minna!
