March Anime Challenge: Two Car

We have an action-packed sports anime for our March anime challenge: Two Car, an anime about Motorcycle sidecar racing. Yes, you read it right! It tells the tale of two girls who enter the competitive world of motorcycle sidecar racing. Girlish, slender Yuki is the driver that controls the accelerator and brake, the daughter of a family that runs a guesthouse and the boyish and impulsive Megumi uses her acrobatic skills and body weight to handle the corner work. Her family runs an inn. Our two heroines will battle it out on the racing tracks with other motorcycle sidecar teams from all over Japan.

Side Car ran from October to December 2017 and is a 12-episode-series. It was an original work by Nikoichi and was directed by Masafumi Tamura at Silver Link. Katsuhiko Takayama wrote the script and supervised it while Tiv created the original character design concepts. An unconventional anime should make for an interesting challenge.

Week 1 March 01 – 07, 2021

Episode 1 – 3

Konnichiwa minna! It is week 1 one of our Two Car anime challenge. In our challenge anime, a team of two has to work the sidecar and this week we talk about Yuri Miyata, the driver,  and her voice actress, Aoi Koga. She and her partner, Megumi Meguro are the team representing Tokyo Miyake Girls’ High School. Her family runs a guesthouse.

Her voice actress is Saga Prefecture-based Aoi Koga, who was born on born August 24, 1993. She has been an anime fanatic since childhood, watching anime such as Ojamajo Doremi and CardCaptor Sakura. Her love for voice acting started after watching puppet segments in a show called Okaasan to Issho. She wanted to ‘befriend dolls’ and this and her passion for anime urged her to pursue a career in entertainment. She started taking voice lessons at a vocational school in Fukuoka and that led her to enrol in 81 Produce’s training school, later becoming affiliated with them. Her first credited role in an anime was a woman in Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers. Some of her voice acting anime roles include Zombieland Saga as Maria Amabuki (2018), Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as Rokuta Kamado (2019), A Certain Scientific Accelerator as Naru (2019, 2020) and she is Rose in How Not to Summon a Demon Lord Ω, Rose which will be released later this year.

Well we hope you enjoyed getting acquainted with Aoi Koga. Enjoy this week’s challenge and have a super sugoi week.

Week 2 March 08 – 14, 2021

Konnichiwa Minna. Two Car, our challenge anime is very special in one aspect, it was created by Silver Link as part of their 10th-year-anniversary project. Silver Link is an anime studio that was founded by animation producer Hayato Kaneko in 2007. The studio is based in Tokyo.

Just after it’s creation, Shin Oonuma, a director from Shaft anime house joined, and the majority of Silver Link’s production involved Oonuma as director or co-director. Silverlink also owns subsidiaries like Beep, which is a subcontracting anime studio and Connect, a studio that sometimes co-produced anime, well that was before 2020.

2020, the year of lockdowns and coronaviruses changed everything. Silver link absorbed and dissolved Connect, and all of Connect’s rights managed by the company was transferred to Silver Link. And then after that Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings acquired Silver Link. 2020 was a big year of change!

Here are two trailers of two well-loved Silver Link produced anime. If you have not seen these anime, we highly recommend you give them a try. Have a super sugoi week minna, and enjoy the challenge.

Week 4 March 22 – 28, 2021

Episode 10 – 12

Konnichiwa minna, this is the last week of our Two Car challenge. As a recommendation for more sports anime we suggest Prince of Tennis.

The anime tells the tale of Ryoma Echizen, a tennis prodigy and son of a ‘former tennis rock-star’, which made the world and his peers dub him The prince of Tennis. In the anime, Ryoma attends the Seishun Gakuen (Seigaku for short), a school known for its strong tennis club and talented players. It shows how despite being a prodigy, Ryoma finds his own style of tennis and also chronicles his fellow club members journeys to discover their own styles and paths. It is a coming of age anime well worth the watch, and even if tennis is not your thing, you may find that Prince of Tennis is.

We hope you enjoy the rest of the challenge and enjoyed all of our recommendations. Have a super sugoi week.
