April Anime Challenge: Diabolik Lovers

Our April Anime Challenge is filled with blood and romance, a horror romance anime called Diabolik Lovers, so sharpen your stakes and ready the holy water as we step into the world of blood -loving vampires. The anime is based on the visual novels franchise by Rejet which materialized into our reality in October 2012. The series bit everyone’s fascination and in 2013 Zexcs studio produced the epic anime and it hit the television screens in Japan. During the month Ookami will tell you more about the anime on our Anime Challenge page.

In the anime Yui Komori goes to live in a secluded mansion at her father’s request, a mansion which happens to be the home of the six Sakamaki brothers – Shuu, Reiji, Ayato, Kanato, Laito, and Subaru – a family of vampiric sexy vampire boys. The boys are very confused at the start of the series as to why a beautiful girl arrived, until it is realized that Yui is their ‘sacrificial bride’. Add to that the fact that the boys keep getting hungry for her blood and you can imagine the twist and turns this story will take. Will she survive the fanged family’s lust for blood? Will she stay human or become a creature of the night. Join us this month, darklings, for Diabolik Lovers.

Konnichiwa Minna, welcome to week 1 of our Diabolik Lovers anime challenge. Nothing is more addictive than a visual novel, especially because it ‘feels’ as if you are playing and watching an anime at the same time. Diabolik Lovers, a visual novel franchise by Rejet proved so popular that an anime, manga, drama CDs, music, fan books and stage production as well as half-dozen games followed in its wake. The game titles thus far include Diabolik Lovers: Haunted Dark Bridal, Diabolik Lovers: More, Blood, Diabolik Lovers: Vandead Carnival, Diabolik Lovers: Dark Fate, Diabolik Lovers: Lunatic Parade, Diabolik Lovers: Lost Eden and Diabolik Lovers: Chaos Lineage.

In the game, you take the role of Yui Komori (The default name) and can choose from a handsome selection of male characters who would be her love interest. In the game every playable character’s route is split into three sections: Dark, Maniac and Ecstacy, and each of these is split into a prologue, ten subsections and an epilogue. Depending on your choices each character also has three possible endings.

One of Zexcs Studio’s anime projects were Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori. The anime tells the tale about four young men that run a Japanese Style Tea-house named Rokuhoudou together. The staff consists Sui who is the owner in charge of the tea, Gre who is in charge of the Latte Art, Tsubaki who is in charge of sweets and desserts and Tokitaka who is in charge of the food. They are not just skilled in their work and exceptional at hospitality, they also like to help their patron with their worries. Every episode has an endearing story about a customer who is in peril or needs saving, whether it is a shy man in love or and over-worked salaryman, our four culinary heroes always find the solution.

Rokuhoudou Yotsuiro Biyori was our anime challenge last December and worth a watch if you missed out on that challenge. It is a perfect ‘feel-good’ anime to watch in the lockdown. In this week’s challenge, let’s watch episode 9 and 10. Enjoy the challenge and have a super sugoi week!

Week 4 April 27 – May 03 2020

Episodes 11 – 12

Konnichiwa Minna, welcome to our final week the Diabolik Lovers anime challenge. This week we bring you a vampire anime recommendation and it is a classic. The movie Blood the Last Vampire (2000).

Blood the Last Vampire takes place in 1966, just before the Vietnam War begins. The movie starts in a subway, and we meet Saya, a mysterious sword-yielding teenaged girl who happens to be a vampire. Saya hunts Chiropterans, demonic creatures that survive by feasting on the blood of humans for a secret (aren’t they always) American Government organization called Red Shield.

After her mission on the subway, her latest assignment takes her to the Yohkoto Air Base, a bustling American military installation busy celebrating Halloween. Posing as a student, Saya infiltrates the base and begins her search for the demonic creatures.

If you like Blood the last Vampire and seek more Saya in your anime there are two anime series spinoffs named Blood+ and Blood C. The two series are their own entities apart from the movie, each telling a different story.

We hope you enjoyed our bloodsucking challenge so far and will take a look at our recommendations. In this week’s challenge, let’s watch episode 11 and 12. Be save and have a super sugoi week!
