Jet Black the ship’s captain of Cowboy Bebop

Jet Black the ship’s captain of Cowboy Bebop

Let’s meet Jet Black and his crew

Jet is a bounty hunter, a former member of ISSP. After retirement, Jet became the captain of a converted fishing vessel, the Bebop and travels the Solar System in search for the bounties. Jet is like a fatherly figure to the crew, showing a fatherly affection towards Ein, and later, Edward when she joins the ship. He seems to take this as an offense if reminded of it since he is 36 and he prefers that others think of him as young.
Jet is trustworthy and loyal to his friends. He appears gruff on the exterior but often lets down his guard to joke or relax.

Cowboy Bebop follows the adventures of a Jet and his motley crew of bounty hunters trying to survive day-to-day. They are five very different people: Jet Black, an ex-officer of the Inter Solar System Police retired thanks to the loss of his arm; Spike Siegel, a retired and exiled hit man; Faye Valentine, a con artist suffering from amnesia due to the fact that she was in cryogenic hibernation for a long time; Edward, a preteen genius hacker girl and Ein, a hyper-intelligent, genetically-engineered dog.

The anime is quite addictive because over the series, the crew members each deals with unresolved issues from their pasts, it is really easy to get captivated into each character’s storyline, further proof that character building in this anime is extremely well-done, from Spike to the dog, Ein.

Visually, the style of animation is extremely well done, realistic and each movement is carried fluently from scene to scene by use of computer graphics that blends in well with the background. On a side note, Edward’s movement is out of this world and that adds to her character’s believability and gives justice the series.

The soundtrack is one of the best ever heard maybe because of Yoko Kanno, a great and respected singer (Ghost in the Shell- Stand Alone Complex, Wolf’s Rain), but there is also great music by The Seatbelts and Mai Yamane in the series.

Warning: This series might make you wish that it will never end and you might just watch it again the next day. No wonder it is one of the most respected and popular anime series from the 1990s
