The Western comic scene’s take on the Attack On Titan phenomena
American comic creators have been given the chance to give their own unique spin on Attack on Titan. This all thanks to a new Attack on Titan anthology announced by publishing house Kodansha Comics at the New York Comic Con on Thursday.
This anthology will hit the stores in 2016. The book will have the same size as a regular American comic, which is larger than Manga size and stories will range from 5 to 25 pages. Included in the book will be pin-up art. It will be a 250 page collection featuring short stories by western comic writers like Scott Snyder (Batman Writer), Gail Simone (Red Sonja), Michael Avon Oeming (powers co-creator), Faith Erin Hicks (Super Hero Girl), Kate Leth (Kate or Die!), Ronald Wimberly (Prince of Cats), Genevieve Valentine (Batman & Robin), Afua Richardson (Genius), Tomer Hanuka (Illustrator of The Divine), Asaf Hanuka (Illustrator of The Divine), Cameron Steward (Bat Girl), Damion Scott (Ghost Rider) and Kevin Wada (She Hulk).
All these amazing comic book artists will have the opportunity to create their own characters for the stories. The director of publishing Ben Applegate, of Kodansha USA commented the following:
“We’re trying to create a book with a wide variety of stories, so I want to start with what the creators are interested in doing and go from there. So far, we’ve got a few serious stories in the Titan continuity, a few stories involving Titans in new settings, and a few completely off-the-wall comedy pieces.”
One of these Mr. Applegate might be referring to is the Avengers/Attack on Titan crossover from earlier this year, intended for the Japanese Brutus magazine that were also printed in the U.S. as part of Marvel’s All-New All-Different Avengers release for Free Comic Book Day.
The whole anthology project offers a lot to look forward to with all the western comic book talents working on it. Interested to know more about the anthology? Then follow the link: http://bit.ly/Attack_On_Titan_Anthology
