AnimeFanatika honors Robin Williams

World- renowned legend Robin Williams was known for great movies like Hook, Good Will Hunting, One Hour Photo, Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, August Rush and The Fisher King. As a matter of fact he is to appear in four more movies after his death, which includes Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb.

Why, would some of you wonder, would AnimeFanatika honor a Hollywood actor and what has this to do with anime?

Firstly, did you know that Robin Williams absolutely loved anime? He was a huge fanatik of anime such as Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Blood: The Last Vampire and Appleseed. In an interview once he made the following statement when asked about anime:

“I am a big fan of Japanese animation. They make movies like Innocence Ghost in the Shell 2 and Appleseed in which they really look at the darker themes and I am fascinated by what they do. I love animation. It allows me to be free to create a character that is totally different than me. And with the Japanese, every film pushes the envelope a little further.”

Spoken like a true Anime Fanatik, and we can see he really knows his anime as well as how the Japanese as a whole are driven in what they do.

Secondly, did you know that he named his daughter Zelda after Princess Zelda of the Legend of Zelda games, games famous for anime art in them? Robin Williams was a gamer too. He loved playing Legend of Zelda, Warcraft 3, Half-Life and lots of other games.

He was more than a comedian and actor, giving entertainment and memories to millions with his movies; he was also someone that knew how to have fun. Watching anime, being a gamer, proof that he was a young at heart.

We all already miss him and he left the world and movie industry with a legacy that very few hold to.

After suffering from depression his whole life, he died of suicide through asphyxiation, on August 11th 2014. Depression takes wonderful people from this world and is a serious disease. What we must take from this is that we must talk to someone when we are depressed. Depression can be beaten, it is something we cannot beat alone but with help and understanding from others. It can also be treated medically. Never be afraid to reach out for help.
On a lighter note we have three videos for you to celebrate Robin Williams as an anime fan and as a gamer.
