Don’t know what to watch then our monthly challenge is here to help you. Sometimes something nostalgic and sometimes a series that will fit in with the theme of the month. We especially like October… HALLOWEEN! 

Check in every week to see which episodes to watch of the current series. Usually no more than 3 episodes and easy to fit into the busiest schedule. Don’t forget to go view our events page to see when we will have our next anime day.

November 2018 - The Devil Is a Part-Timer!

The anime tells the story of the Satan, Demon Lord, set to conquer the world of Ente Isla with the help of his demon generals Alciel, Lucifer, Malacoda, and Adramelech. But then the hero Emilia and her companions kills Malacoda and Ardramelech and Satan and Alciel escapes the world through a gate to modern day Tokyo, Japan! Because of the lack of magic in this modern world they change their shapes into something more human and Satan takes a part time job in a fast food restaurant named MgRonald. Satan, now known as Sadao Mao one day meets a girl who is actually Emilia in the form of Emi Yusa. A whole new adventure awaits the ex-dark-lord-turned-part-timer and his friends. Join us for this exciting challenge this month as we explore just how good Satan is at a fast food worker!

October 2018 - Kyoukai no Kanata

The series starts with Akihito Kanbara saving his school friend Mirai Kuriyama from committing suicide. All of a sudden Mirai stabs him with a sword formed from her own blood! That is how it is discovered that Akihito is an immortal. He is a half-youmi, the offspring of a youmi, supernatural entity and a human. Akihito learns that Mirai is a Ikaishi, a spirit world warrior, a special warrior that protects humans from being affected by youmu. He discovers that Mirai is the last surviving member of her spirit hunting clan. Akihito becomes Mirai’s world as he helps her to gain confidence to kill youmu (and to hopefully stop her for trying to kill him for practice!)

September 2018 - Zero no Tsukaima

Zero no Tsukaima (The Familiar of Zero) is an anime based on a series of fantasy/comedy light novels by Noboru Yamaguchi. Over 20 volumes were published between 2004 and 2011 at Media Factory, and the light novel was sadly left unfinished due to the author’s death in 2013. In 2016 – 2017 the light novel series was concluded in two volumes by different author who used notes left behind by Noboru Yamaguchi.

The anime tells the tale of Louise, a girl of noble stock who is bad at magic. This caused her to be nicknamed “Louise the Zero” by her class mates. Now at her school the Tristain Academy of Magic, there comes a time when the students can summon their familiars, but when Louise summons her she summons Saito Hiraga, a Japanese student from Japan instead!!! Will Saito find his way back to his world? Will Louise learn to control her magic? Join us on this epic challenge in September and let’s find out together.

August 2018 - Brynhildr in the Darkness

Brynhildr in the Darkness (Gokukoku no Brynhildr) is based on the manga Gokukoku no Brynhildr written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto, which began its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump in 2012. The manga series ended in 2016. The 13-episode anime series premiered between April and June 2014.

The plot starts ten years ago, when childhood friends Ryouta Murakami and Kuroneko set out to proof the existence of alien life. But a tragedy strikes; there is an accident which gravely injured Ryouta and kills Kuroneko. In memory of his dear friend, Ryouta now searches the night sky every night in the hope that his friend was right about the existence of aliens.

July 2018 - Outbreak Company

For our July anime challenge the anime is Outbreak Company. It tells the tale of Shin’ichi Kanō, a recluse otako that takes an online exam for a job. Being very knowledgeable on anime, manga and videos he passed the test and meets his new employer. He is drugged and kidnapped and wakes up on another world, a fantasy world.  Shin’chi is then informed that the Japanese government selected him to help improve Japan’s relation with the new world by establishing a company to spread the unique products of Japanese (otaku) Culture to this new, unexplored market.

The Outbreak Company anime ran from October to December 2013. It was produced by Feel and directed by Kei Oikawa. The anime is based on the Outbreak Company: Moeru Shinryakusha (. Outbreak Company: The Moe Invader) light novel series written by Ichirō Sakaki, with illustrations by Yūgen, of which 18 volumes was published from December 2011 to August 2017 by Kodansha.

June 2018 - Hakuouki Reimeiroku

Hakuouki Reimeiroku Is the third in a series of a three season anime, but it is a prequel to the first two seasons. The whole series consists of Hakuoki, Hakuoki: Hekketsuroku (second season) anime and Hakuoki: Reimeiroku (third season and prequel). 

The anime takes us to the year 1863, Japan is victim to violent waves of street clashes and murder and the Tokugawa Shogunate sends the Roshigumi, a new force of masterless samurai to aid the Aizu forces in Kyoto.  This new ‘police’ force is split between two opposing factions, respectively led by Serizawa Kamo and Isami Kondo. A man named Ryunosuke Ibuki, forced to be a slave by blood debt hates the samurai and what they stand for, and hopes that there will be a chance for both himself and Japan, if Kondo can beat the rabid Serizawa.

May 2018 - Blade & Soul

Blade & Soul tells the tale of Alka, an assassin for the Clan of the Sword. She is on a self-imposed quest to find a woman named Jin Valel, the woman who killed Alka’s master, Hon. On her journey she also encounters three strange women, each a formidable warrior herself. The anime focuses on the futility of vengeance, as well as the stubbornness that envelops one when you know better but instead follows down the darker path.

Blade & Soul is a Japanese anime adaptation of a Korean fantasy martial-arts mmorpg which was developed by NCSOFT (Team Bloodlust). The anime aired from April to June 2014 and was directed by Hiroshi Hamasaki and Hiroshi Takeuchi, scripts was written by Atsuhiro Hamasaki. Production was done at Studio Gonzo.

April 2018 - Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darou ka

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darou ka (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?) plays off in the city of Orario. In Orario there is the Dungeon – a place inhabited by an assortment of monsters, ranging from goblins to dragons. Adventurers visit the dungeon to take on these monsters, defeat them and harvest their crystal shards, which in turn are used to create magical items, or to be exchanged for currency. These adventurers all join groups which are called Familia. The Familia each have its own function, some focus on dungeon crawling while some focus on crafting items. Each of these Familia is named after and serves a resident deity.

Our story follows the adventures of 14-year-old Bell Cranel, the solo adventurer of the Hestia Familia, as well as Hestia herself, the deity of the Hestia Familia. Bell works very hard every day in the dungeon to make ends meet and to improve his skill ad adventurer. He was once saved by Ais Wallenstein, a famous and powerful swords-woman, to whom he looks up to and fell in love with. He is unaware that several girls, mortals and deities, also developed feelings for him, Hestia included…

March 2018 - Canaan

Oosawa Maria is a Japanese photographer currently working in Shanghai, China. Along with her partner Mino, she searches for potential newsworthy stories throughout the city. When strange events occur at a local festival, Maria and Mino immediately investigate. Quickly, the two are immersed in a battle between unknown masked men and a strange, white-haired woman. Just when Maria is about to be caught in the crossfire, an old friend by the name of Canaan appears and helps Maria escape. But a sinister plot over a deadly virus soon develops, and Canaan learns she must confront her past if she wants any chance at stopping the perpetrator and saving her friends.

February 2018 - Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World

Our February anime challenge is Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World, the anime that won the 2017 South African Anime Awards. It is a mystery and psychological fantasy that premiered last year in October and was produced by the anime house, Lerche.  The anime is based on the Kino no Tabi light novel series written by Keiichi Sigsawa. There was also a Kino no Tabi series in 2003, two Kino no Tabi visual novels, manga adaptations and two anime movies.

January 2018 - Highschool of the Dead

This month we have a special treat for Supernatural Action Horror fanatiks. If you liked Television shows such as The Walking Dead, games such as Resident Evil or movies such as Night of The Living Dead, then get ready to bite into this month’s anime challenge: Highschool of the Dead (shortened to HOTD by adoring fanatiks).
