April Anime Challenge: Cheating Craft

Our April anime challenge is Cheating Craft, a Japanese/Chinese anime series that was animated by BLADE and produced by Emon. It is based on Gemini Xin Luo‘s novel Zuobi Yishu and premiered in October 2016. It was directed by Keitaro Motonaga, Mai Matsuura and Norie Tanaka designed the characters and they served as chief animators with Ryousuke Tanigawa. The female pop idol group Kamen Joshi performed the opening song and Aina Kusuda did the ending theme.

In the world of Cheating Craft, academic success decides your entire future, and the classroom is a ruthless battlefield. If you pass examinations, your future is guaranteed, while failing leads to a life of cruelty, torment and despair. To survive and stay alive you must be cunning or intelligent, either study your butt off or have the perfect cheating strategy. We follow the exploits of cheater Zhuge Mu Ming. What will be his destiny?

Week 1 April 05 to April 11, 2021

Episodes 1- 3

Konnichiwa Minna, this is the beginning of our Cheating Craft anime challenge, and because this is April and we are fools for fun, we will suggest a parody anime each week that you can look into if you are looking for more anime to watch. Without further ado, here is this week’s suggestion:

Shingeki! Kyojin Chuugakkou (Attack on Titan: Junior High)

This parody of Attack on Titan is set in an entirely different universe than Attack on Titan. This School comedy centres on the original manga’s characters such as Eren and Mikasa battling the titans, but expect stuff like human vs, Titan volleyball match, a Titan rock band and other crazy stuff.

If you are an Attack on Titan fanatik and needs a laugh, this anime is a much see. Remember our Cheating Craft assignment is episode 1 to 3, enjoy the challenge and have a super sugoi week

Week 2 April 12 to April 18, 2021

Episodes 4 – 6

Konnichiwa minna, we just hit week 2 of our Cheating Craft anime challenge, and we have another parody anime challenge for you! Our suggestion for this week is:

Gintama

The anime plays off in Japan’s Edo era but it is set in an alternative world with a twist. Aliens from outer space called Amano have invaded the world. The Shogun outlawed the carrying of real swords to try to keep the peace since the Amano is stronger than humanity, the samurai caste is more or less abolished. Sakata the samurai is not taking this laying down and starts to run the Yorozuya, a “we-do-anything-shop”. If you have a problem, just come by the shop and get it solved, is their motto.

Gintama is known to parody a lot of anime, especially tackling cliches from shonen series, if you need more laughter in your life, try it out, it is hilarious. Remember our Cheating Craft assignment is episode 4 to 6, enjoy the challenge and have a super sugoi week.

Week 3 April 19 to April 25, 2021

Episodes 7 – 9

Konnichiwa minna, welcome to week 3 of our Cheating Craft anime challenge, and we have another parody anime challenge for you! Our suggestion for this week is:

FLCL

FLCL was a parody and a ‘coming of age story about 12-year-old Naota Nandaba who lived with his widower father and his grandfather. His whole life is turned sideways and upside down when the enigmatic weird and wonderful Haruko Haruhara runs Naoto over with her yellow Vespa 180 SS scooter, gives him CPR and then hit him over the head with a guitar ( a vintage Rickenbacker 4001 left-handed electric bass guitar to be exact).

Hilarity ensues as our poor hero, Naoto discovers that the blow in his head opens a portal from which giant robots appear. But of course, that is not all. When he returns home he finds that Haruko now works and lives in his house as a live-in maid. FLCL is a Mecha- Maid-Sci-Fi-Comedy-and-a-million-other-anime-genres-rolled-into-one anime.

The series had two spinoff series later but the original FLCL to some is the only one that matters. We hope you will give this short series a try. Enjoy our challenge this week, and have a good one.

Week 4 April 26 to May 02, 2021

Episodes 10 – 12

Konnichiwa minna, the fourth and final week of our Cheating Craft anime challenge is here and we have our final parody anime recommendation for you.

Arakawa Under the Bridge

It’s been our anime challenge precisely two years ago, and many of our new readers may have missed the challenge. The anime, set in Arakawa, Tokyo tells the tale of Kou Ichinomiya, a self-accomplished man. He is a man which lives by his father’s rule that his father imprinted on him since childhood:’Never be indebted to another person.’ Suddenly an event happens which conflicts with that rule. You see, he falls into the Arakawa River and he almost drowns. Luckily a girl named Nino rescues him and in return, he owes her his life. Because of his father’s in-bedded rule, he cannot accept and he asks her a way for him to pay that debt. After relentlessly trying to get her to name a payment for his debt, she tells him to love her, and so Kou’s bizarre life starts of living under a bridge. To top that, he discovers that Arakawa is a world of weirdos!! It seems that this month we are in for a hilarious challenge!

For more information, check out our Arakawa Under The Bridge Challenge. We hope you are still enjoying this challenge with us. Have a super sugoi week!
