Death Note Light up the NEW world

The official website of Death Note Light up the NEW world revealed on Thursday that Kenichi Matsuyama, the actor that played L in the previous three Death Note live action movies, will be making a brief appearance in the fourth instalment in the Death Note live-action franchise. The role had him nominated for best supporting actor award in the 30th Japan Academy Prize.

Matsuyama commented on his small reprise role, saying that he is quite happy to play L again even if it is only for three minutes. In the Death Note Light up the NEW world movie, L will send his successor Ryuzaki, played by Sousuke Ikematsu, a message explaining why he decided to use the Death Note to stop Yagami Light 10 years ago. The movie will premiere in Japan on October 29th. A three-episode prequel mini-series titled Death Note NEW GENERATION premiered on September 16, to ready Death Note fans for the new movie.

Death Note Light up the NEW world is playing off in the present day, ten years after the events of the first two movies, where there are new characters that ‘inherited the DNA of Light Yagami and L’ and they will take part in a battle over six Death Notes on earth. In the original manga, it was mentioned that up to six Death Notes and Shinigami could exist in our world, and this will bring a stronger suspense factor to the upcoming movie.
