Fairy Tail History

Many spin-off manga appeared based on characters from the original manga. Fairy Tail Zero (which focus on Mavis Vermillion, the Fairy Tail guild’s creator), Tale of Fairy Tail: Ice Trail (which tells the story of a young Gray Fullbuster). Blue Mistral (which focused on Wendy Marvell), Fairy Girls (focusing on the Girls of the Fairy Tail guild), Fairy Tail Spin-off: Twin Dragons of Sabertooth (which deals with the Sabertooth guild), Fairy Tail Gaiden: Rhodonite (focusing on Gajeel Redfox) and Fairy Tail Gaiden: Raigō Issen, which focus on Laxux Dreyar.

The manga series was such a huge success and then in 2009 the anime series started. It was produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight and became a hit of fanatikal proportions. Seven OVA (original video animations) episodes and the anime movie Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess also aired during the series’ run. The series ran until 2013. In 2014 a second series premiered which ended March this year. A second Fairy Tail movie has been announced last year and a new anime project is in the works.

What is it about?

Fairy Tail is a series that follows the Fairy Tail mage’s guild. The mages go on quests to solve problems in different towns. Often some of its members come across an adventure that may save the whole world. One of the adventures even took them to a parallel world where magic is almost non-existent and where they had doppelgangers that are very different than them yet similar. The anime starts off with Natsu, the Dragon Slayer Mage and his partner Happy, a winged blue cat, and both members of the Fairy Tail mages guild trying to catch a bad guy that calls himself the Salamander. While investigating the criminal they meet up with a celestial wizard named Lucy. She becomes friends with them and a member of the guild as well.

As a Celestial Wizard Lucy has the power to summon Celestial Sprits, many of them based on western astrological signs such as Cancer and Virgo. Each Celestial Spirit has his or her own personality, such as Virgo who are always dressed as a maid and have strong feelings towards Lucy, or Aquarius who are always in a mood when being summoned. Lucy and Aquarius’ antics are very amusing especially when Aquarius, which is a creature of the sea, is summoned into fresh water.

Conclusion

Fairy Tail has been going strong for ten years and if you look at its popularity, the magic of this series is far from over. If you like magic and adventure it is a great anime or manga to sink your teeth into. Happy 500th Manga episode and 10th Year Anniversary Fairy Tail!
