More about the theme song’s origin
Today we revisit old friends by looking at the original Pokémon theme song and then look at new friends by catching up on the latest Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin IV Unmei no Zenya News. Hungry of Anime? Itadakimasu!!
With the Pokémon Go game causing a storm worldwide certain songs started to resurface like the anime series’ original Pokémon theme song. But let us go way back. In 1997 kids everywhere sat in front of their televisions listening to the theme song playing just before the anime episode started. “I wanna be the very best, like no one ever was, to catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause…” Many of us know the lyrics by heart. Just imagine millions of kids chanting the song at the same time; sparkles in their eyes wondering what Ash Ketchum will catch next. Some of you may even know that the voice behind that song was Jason Paige. Since the song is currently having a 400% spike on Spotify we decided to climb on the #pokémon wagon and discuss the theme song and listen to it for old times sake.
This specific theme song was used in the anime and featured in 79 episodes. The full version of the songs are available on the Pokémon 2.B.A. Master and Pokémon X audio CDs which include a second verse of the song not usually heard in the TV Anime, but features in the episodes Bye Bye Butterfree, All Fired Up! and Friends To The End. On the Mewtwo Strikes Back movie, a different full version is heard sung by Billy Crawford.
Here is a video of Jason Paige singing the full version, Please follow our link: http://bit.ly/Pokemon-Theme-Full-ft-Jason-Paige
Here are the full lyrics of the TV version of the song. We also include the opening video if you want to sing along: http://bit.ly/English-Pokemon-Opening
I wanna be the very best
Like no one ever was
To catch them is my real test
To train them is my cause
I will travel across the land
Searching far and wide
Teach Pokémon to understand
The power that’s inside
Pokémon (Gotta catch ’em all), it’s you and me
I know it’s my destiny
Ooh, you’re my best friend
In a world, we must defend
Pokémon (Gotta catch ’em all), a heart so true
Our courage will pull us through
You teach me, and I’ll teach you
(Gotta catch ’em all!)
Gotta catch ’em all!
