Death Note Light up the NEW world

The Death Note Light up the NEW world live-action movie’s official website released a 60-second teaser in the week to introduce its main characters and their struggle for the six new Death Notes that is now loose in the human world. This movie is a ‘forbidden sequel’ to the live-action movies from 2006, Death Note and Death Note: The Last Name. It is not a sequel to the original manga or the 2015 live-action TV drama.

In the original manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, which ran from 2003 to 2006, a teen student named Light finds a notebook on the ground. Soon he finds out that he can kill people by writing their names in it. In a self-justified crusade, he starts killing criminals all over the world with his new found power and gets involved in a cat-and-mouse game with the authorities and an ingenious detective named L.

The new movie, however, will play off in the present day, ten years after the events of the first two movies, where there are new characters that ‘inherited the DNA of Light Yagami and L’ and they will take part in a battle over six Death Notes on earth. In the original manga it was mentioned that up to six Death Notes and Shinigami can exist in our world, something not mentioned in the anime, live-action series, live-action movies and stage play! But now in the new movie, this becomes an important part of the plot.

Death Note Light up the NEW world is directed by Shinsuke Sato (GANTZ, Library Wars) and Warner Brothers Japan will distribute it from October 29, 2016. The cast includes Masaki Suda (live-action Assassination Classroom), Sousuke Ikematsu (The Last Samurai), Masahiro Higashide (live-action Parasyte), Rina Kawaei (Azumi: Bakumatsu-hen stage play), Mina Fujii, and reprising their roles from the previous Death Note movies, Erika Toda as Misa Amane and Shidou Nakamura as Ryuk.
