Final Fantasy XV game and anime news!

Final Fantasy XV previews galore

Anime Fanatiks that are also gamers, specifically gamers that like to play games from the Final Fantasy franchise might enjoy the following news. It seems that Square Enix is streaming a 5-episode anime prequel, named Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV and a feature-length 3 D CG movie, named Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV for the Final Fantasy XV game. The current release date for the game is September 30. This was announced on Wednesday at Square Enis’ ‘Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV’ event.

The anime prequel follows Noctis, Gladios, Ignis and Prompto’s adventures and the first episode is available online already, with English subtitles. It was also revealed that all five episodes would be available before the full release of the game. The anime series is directed by none other than Soichi Masui (Chaika the Coffin Princess, Scrapped Princess) and A-1 Pictures are producing the animation.

As for Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, the movie takes place during the game and follows the happenings with King Regis after Noctis and his friends leaves on a trip. Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad) will play the part as a new protagonist, Nyx. He is a Glaive and member of Kingsglaive. The movie also includes Lena Headly (Game of Thrones) as Lunafreya and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) as King Regis.

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV will be released before the games release as well, available for streaming as well as download. The same team that worked on the Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie are working on the Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV movie. A trailer for the movie has been released.

Square Enix released an official synopsis of Final Fantasy XV:

“The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the hallowed Crystal, but the menacing empire of Niflheim will stop at nothing to make it theirs. War has raged between the two for as long as most can remember.

King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers dubbed the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx Ulric, and his fellow glaives stand before the crown city of Insomnia, fighting to stay the inexorable advance of Niflheim’s imperial army.

Before the overwhelming military might of the empire, King Regis can only salvage his kingdom by accepting an ultimatum—he must cede all lands outside the crown city, and see his son, Prince Noctis, wed to Lady Lunafreya, the former princess of Tenebrae now captive of Niflheim.

As the war of wills rages, the machinations of Niflheim transform Insomnia into an awe-inspiring battleground, pulling Nyx into a struggle for the very survival of the kingdom.”

The Final Fantasy franchise is no stranger to anime. In 2001, Square Pictures released Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within movie, followed by Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children movie and the non-canonical OVA Last Order: Final Fantasy VII. There was also a 25-episode anime series named Final Fantasy: Unlimited.
