Future Trunks – Master Stars Piece
Future Trunks is the ‘first Trunks’ introduced to us in the Dragon Ball Universe (Episode 119 of Dragon Ball Z). He is an alternate reality version of Trunks, the son of Saiyan Prince Vegeta and Bulma. He grew up in a different world than the Trunks that is part of the main story line. In Trunks’ reality Android 17 and Android 18 murdered the Z Fighters and created an apocalyptic earth. The only other Z Fighter that lived through that was Future Gohan who became Trunks’ Mentor. Trunks eventually traveled back in time to stop the ‘Android Apocalypse’ and that is where we first meet up with him.
Trunks is a well-mannered, but also serious and very cautious, well who would not be cautious after the hell he went through in the dark Future Timeline he came from. Future Gohan trained him hard and he became a gifted fighter and exceptional swordsman. He inherited both the Future Gohan’s do-or-die attitude and Vegeta’s brash confidence (Luckily on his father’s pride and arrogance).
Future Trunks is a huge fan favourite. Even the composer of the FUNimation dub of Dragon Ball Z, Bruce Faulconer revealed on his website that Future Trunks was his favorite Dragon Ball Z Character. The American voice actor Christopher Sabat also is a huge fan of Future Trunks saying that he liked how Trunks is a ‘lone survivor of the apocalypse, son of the most angry and the most headstrong characters.’ He was also a huge fan of Trunks’ fights in the anime.
Name: Dragon Ball Z – Future Trunks – Master Stars Piece
Release Date: July 2015
Size: 25 cm
Anime/Manga/Game: Dragon Ball Z
The Future Trunks figurine’s pose makes it look as if it is about to power up to Super Saiayn Mode. You can almost imaging a lot of scream grunting to follow with a yellow aura bursting out around Trunks, like in the anime. His face is serious and he means business. “Beware androids, Future Trunks is coming for you,” is the statement one can sense from this figurine.
Overall: A generous 7.75
Paint Job – 6
The paintjob is not bad, especially the shading but being a Future Trunks fanatik, I have issues with the hair. Why Blue? The real Trunks has a more purplish indigo hair colour. Maybe I am picky but I am sure most DBZ fans will agree.
Sculpting – 10
The sculptor did an impressive job. Future Trunks’ face is a masterpiece. It brings forth the haunting trauma Trunks went through in the eyes and the latent anger in the face. Awesome job on his uniform too.
Design – 7
The design is not half bad! High-level detail was crafted into this and for that they have my respect. The only issue is that a more active pose like a combat pose with the sword maybe would have been nice.
Display Worth – 8
It is Trunks. Who would not want to put it on display? Shame about the hair colour though.
Future Trunks is a cult favourite and Banpresto almost made it to perfection. I would love to have Trunks in my collection, him being my personal favourite DBZ character. However, and I say this with a slight sad look on my face, if I find one with a better hair colour and pose, I’d buy that one first instead of this figurine. But if I get this one for free, I will have no problem with that.
