What to expect – Kurayami Santa

To many the word Santa evokes the chocolate chip cookies or ginger snaps and milk they left for Santa the night before Christmas or that song “You better watch out, you better not cry, better not pout, I’m telling you why…” But a different Santa seems to be coming to town and no kids it is not Christmas. Even if this one is maybe also making a list and checking it twice.

The Santa we are talking about is, for now, the very ominous figure in all the promotional pictures showing of the upcoming anime Kurayami Santa. As I write this I have not seen an episode yet so whatever I write here you might find either exiting or if you saw the first episode by now, rather funny. But speculation is fun. First let me tell you what I do now about this upcoming supernatural horror anime.

Kurayami Santa is a series of horror anime shorts produced by KBC (Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting) in collaboration with ILCA. The anime is set in 1960 Kyushu and is about Santa, a familiar from hell charged to keep the balance between hell and the human world. In this series he meets up with many supernatural creatures as well as humans.

What is interesting about this series is that it has been animated to look and feel like the black and white anime from the 1960s. Remember those old black and white horror movies our parents and grandparents grew up with? Well, maybe it will be a bit like that. Santa sounds like a very scary character maybe who ‘sees you when you are sleeping. and knows when you are awake, knows if you are bad or good” just like the Santa Christmas song. And he is coming. Can’t wait to meet him.

The trailer video to the movie starts off with a very spooky sound to it and the song afterwards reminds me a little of music from the 60s, please have a look by following this link: http://bit.ly/Kurayami_Santa_Trailer
